30 Jan. 1945 | |
0340 |
Sighted patrol boat (Ship Contact #7) bearing 180ºT. at about 10,000 yards. His course Easterly. Commenced endaround towards Lombok to get moon advantage and benefit of land background as well as important position ahead. |
0425 | Submerged to radar depth. We are now about 10º on target's port bow distance about 6,500 yards. |
0450 | Target course now 075ºT., hiss speed 7 knots. Went to 200 feet. |
0500-01 | Fired one MK.27 torpedo. |
0501-03 | One explosion. |
0506 | At periscope depth saw target sink. |
0513 | Surfaced. |
0615 | Sighted plane (Aircraft Contact #2). Submerged for all day dive in center of Lombok. |
1910 | Surfaced. |
2304 | Submerged for SJ contact on plane (Aircraft Con. #3). |
31 Jan. 1945 | |
0140 | Submerged for SJ contact on plane (Aircraft Con. #4). |
0200 | Surfaced. |
0545 | Submerged southwest of Lombok. Patrolled southwest coast along 200 meter curve. Saw shore battery emplacements but could not see gun which fired at us the other night. |
1815 | Surfaced. Set course to clear Strait northward. |
2300 | Transmitted our first message requesting rendezvous with BLUEGILL and
reporting results.
NOTE:- Plane search during last two nights and failure of all but one of the patrol vessels to put to sea during the last two days led me to believe the next few days would be fruitless. New rendezvous requested would permit our reaching station two days earlier. |
