· New Business:
· Treasurers report was given by Association Treasurer Brian
Daugherty.
· Association Vice President Bryan Waller discussed the shift
from letters and emails, to more people being involved in the Bergall Facebook
group, and getting more of their info that way. We will continue to do both
Email and Facebook posts, to keep our group informed.
· Bryan Waller went over instructions for the Boat tours on the
morning of the 5th.
· Mike Sobkowski gave a Scholarship Committee update. The
consensus from the committee was that we cannot form an Incorporation for the
scholarship group at this time, so we are not a tax-free group, but we are a
non-profit. Sam Hornreich and Marty Gelfand are working together to try and
ensure we can get to tax free status, if possible, in the future. Mike’s hope
is to form an endowment fund, to perpetuate the scholarship for descendants
for years to come. Just as a reminder, the scholarship is for any
post-secondary education, including Trade Schools, as well as 2- or 4-year
degree.
· A motion was proposed by Bryan Waller, seconded by Carol
Elnicki to use the proceeds from the 50/50 raffle for the scholarship fund.
Vote was approved.
· Marty Gelfand proposed to have a reunion at same time next
year, seconded by Jeff Moreau, voted and approved.
· 4 cities were proposed/seconded for the reunion site, the
vote tally was as follows: Philadelphia – 1 vote, Akron – 1 vote, Cleveland –
23 votes, and the winner is Jacksonville FL with 29 votes. Reunion will be
sometime in first 2 weeks of October 2020, more details to follow.
· Next order of business was election of Officers. Sam
McConnell proposed and Sam Hornreich seconded that all the Association
officers stay in place with the exception of the current Secretary Jerome
Whitehead, who stepped down. Brian Daugherty proposed Brooks Langkans to take
over as Secretary, seconded by Sam Hornreich, no others were proposed. Voters
approved current board, and Brooks Langkans took over as Secretary.
· Bryan Waller went over the arrangements for the Banquet on
10/5.
· Sam Hornreich proposed, seconded by Marty Gelfand to pass the
hat to raise funds for the USS Razorback. The hat was passed and raised
$293.00 for the Razorback. Brian Daugherty proposed, and seconded by Sam
Hornreich, for the Bergall Association to donate $250.00. It was voted and
approved, for a total of $543.00 to USS Razorback Museum.
· Gary Wallick was acknowledged for his planning/coordinating
of the Tolling of the Boats ceremony form earlier in the day. Good job Gary
and all who helped with the reading of the boats, tolling of the bell, and the
flag ceremony. BZ to all!
· Barb and Ellie were recognized for finding this year’s hotel.
Thanks Ladies!
· Sam Hornreich proposed, Carol Elnicki seconded to adjourn the
meeting, voted and approved.
· Meeting was adjourned at 2141.
Reunion summary:
The scholarship fund received just shy of $2000, $705 from the
50/50 raffle, and the rest from your generous donations. Thanks once again for
your continuous support!
One couple has generously setup a $50/month allotment for the
scholarship fund, further enhancing opportunities for the Bergall legacy to
continue on. Again, thanks are in order!
There were ~ 65 items that were donated for the Silent Auction, resulting in
the reunion actually ending up in the black overall.
Biggest reunion I can remember, I want to thank all of you for
attending/participating/sharing with all you do. Looking forward to seeing you
all in Jacksonville next year!
