Memories of Mac
Ballard
I rode the Bergall from 69-74 and left as an STS2. I lived in a few Snake Ranches while on the boat, the best one was with Ted Ansink, Steve Tunney, Ernie Maturino and Doug something. We lived out at Groton Long Point. Our parties were noted for our punch called Shark's Blood. We had a great time.
Bluenose ceremony, with Don Basham as one of the initiates sitting in a tub of
ice and pretending that he can't feel a thing. After a couple of minutes, he
didn't. I can't remember the LT's name, I know he was the Weps. Great guy,
mustanger.
This is Doc Mays on his unicycle. Doc came from a circus family and
showed off for us topside. I know Denny Disalvo, a QM is on the
right, our "career seaman", can't remember his name on the
left. I think Billy Salvador was behind Doc, don't remember who else
was up there.
Living in the barracks was really bad. This is Dave Bonds and the
"Cajun" who was a Yeoman. Curt will probably remember HIS
name. A story only Curt could tell...
My bud Rudy.
Me FINALLY getting my
Dolphins, from CAPT Tally, seemed like forever.
Robbie and the boys sipping a
few cool ones in St. Croix. Great times! The lady who was the Pier
Master sold beer from the back of her truck. Always had a good time
there.
Mac and Jacobi. I got to serve with Les Jacobi later in
"life". He was the Chief of
Staff at SUBDEVRON12 and I was the EMO. Bergall crew making good.
