Commander George E. Manaskie
Commanding Officer, USS BERGALL (SSN 667), 1993 - 1995
Commander Manaskie, a native of Bellmore, New York, graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1977. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a master of arts degree in national security and strategic studies. Following graduation he completed nuclear power training and Submarine Officer Basic Course, graduating with distinction. His initial shipboard assignment was aboard USS TULLIBEE (SSN 597) where he qualified in submarines and served as Damage Control Assistant and Weapons Officer.
From 1982 to 1984 Commander Manaskie served as the director of the reactor principles division at Naval Nuclear ]Power School in Orlando, Florida. He was designated a Master Training Specialist by the Chief of Naval Technical Training.
After graduating from Submarine Officer Advanced Course with distinction in December 1984, Commander Manaskie reported as Engineer Officer of USS LAFAYETTE (SSBN 616) (Blue). During this period he completed four strategic deterrent patrols. In September 1987, Commander Manaskie reported to Naval Military Personnel Command for duty as the submarine post department head assignment officer and submarine training placement officer.
Commander Manaskie served as Executive Officer of USS CINCINNATI (SSN 693) from December 1989 to October 1991. He participated in numerous NATO exercises and a Northern Atlantic deployment.
After attending the Naval War College in 1992, Commander Manaskie received a master of arts degree in national security and strategic studies. He was the president's honor graduate of his class.
Commander Manaskie assumed command of USS BERGALL (SSN 667) in October 1993. Manaskie is entitled to wear the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (two awards), the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (five awards), and the Arctic Service Ribbon. Commander Manaskie is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Susan Gail Fader of Merrick, New York. They reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia with their two children.
