In floating drydock to scrape the BARNICLES off. We did that once a year.

Taking on torpedoes, they are 21 ft long, & 21 in. Diameter. The fleet type sub can carry 24. 16 forward,8 aft.

USS Pomodon (SS 486) was a Tench style boat, a lot different than our design
Tied up at the sub base PEARL HARBOR. some days there would be 20 subs tied up. Crew 7 officers & 65 Enlisted.
R.R. Costello S1 SM and Charlie Guinn GM 1, we were docked at a finger pier
in front of the Diving tower at the Sub Base Pearl Harbor 1947.

We were going into port of BRISBANE Australia December 1948.
The guy on the far left of the picture is ME.
We were taking recordings of the thickness of the crust of the earth and we made over 1,000 dives, that is why we wore off the paint.
This was my home 1947-48-49.
When I couldn't get what I wanted from the Navy, I got out and went to the
Marines and got my wings...
