Memories of
Gene Richter '53 - '55
All of the snipes and A gangers on the Bregall had a "go to trio" to
learn their craft. They were John Ott, Gene Richter and Harry Sullivan. May
they rest in peace.
Gene, like many 1st Class PO after the war saw no path to CPO. They were
career E6s but Gene as well as Rod Lovdall applied for commissions.
They were
accepted and commissioned and distinguished themselves as Officers
I was Gene's Oiler and John Ott tasked him to turn this Snipe into an Engineman
which they did
Gene was a handy woodworker and he made several Fishing Tackle Boxes which
were raffled off to the crew. I have and still use on of them
I am in the lower left and the last three at the top (right) is Harry Sullivan, Gene Richter, Ronald Miller
