1800 (H) | Sighted submarine on surface bearing 250°T.,
distance 6 miles. Turned away to port and saw him do
likewise. His silhouette looked British. Position: Lat.- 2° 41' N. Long.- 107° 58' E. |

2000 (H) | Passed narrowest part of Karimata Strait without incident. |
1 Nov. 1944 | Sighted two small sailboats during day and large quantities of oil for several hours beginning about two hours after clearing southern end of Karimata Strait. |

0120 (H) | Avoided small sailboat. Both of these boats appeared to be too small to be worthy of destruction. |
1515 (H) | Sighted sailboat which appeared to be loaded. Manned 20 mm. and 40 mm. guns. While closing to 1,000 yards could make out a covered hatch which appeared to be loaded with junk. Could see two or three men. Fired a few bursts across her bow. Men disappeared. Reasoned that if they were unarmed they would dive overboard where we could see them. Opened fire and destroyed boat to protect our topside personnel from possible treachery. Boat was loaded with coconuts and chickens. A crew of seven Malays, one possibly Jap. were found in the water on the far side of the boat. |
