8 Feb. 1945 | |
1134 |
Sighted another floating mine. Our position unknown now. |
9 Feb. 1945 | Patrolling 16 miles off coast. Position unknown. Heavy seas, visibility 2,000 yards. |
0335 | Exchanged calls with HAKE whose area is C-3, south of us. Decided we had reached the southern limit of our area. |
0550 | SJ interference 050šT., probably GUITARRO. |
0645 | Lost SJ interference. |
1337 | Sighted plane (Nell) (Aircraft Contact #13). Submerged. Decided to remain submerged to water batteries, shift torpedoes and work on #2 main engine. Seas still very heavy. |
1905 | Surfaced. |
2130 | Finally located ourselves by radar at northern end of area, 19 miles off coast. Headed south to contact GUITARRO. |
10 Feb. 1945 | Seas still heavy and visibility low. |
0147 | Contacted GUITARRO by SJ. Told her to patrol on surface, 15 miles East of Nuoc Island and that we would patrol submerged two miles off the same island. |
0650 | Submerged. |
0730 | Sighted several small ships close to beach. |
0800 | Can now see that there are six small coastal ships aground on the beach, all partially sunk. Judging by their rusty condition it looks as though some of them have been there for some time. |
1530 | Echo ranging, 250šT. |
1543 | Sighted PC boat in close to beach headed south. Depth of water in his locality about 6 fathoms. |
1922 | Surfaced. Commenced patrolling a line perpendicular to beach from seven to fifteen miles off it. |
