Range 3,700 yards, angle on bow 130º Stbd.   They have zigged away but the far ship is about 1/2 ship length astern of the near one so  there is a good chance of hitting both.   Torpedo run 4,300 yards.

0940-50 Explosion.

It is believed that the first three torpedoes missed and that the 4th and 5th hit the far tanker which was about 900 yards beyond the target.   The 6th torpedo probably hit the target.   The plot showed that the targets were constant helm zig ging and were on the far side of of their track at the instant of firing.   Only one set of heavy screws could be heard after the torpedo explosions.   Immediately after firing #6, turned towards near escort and in so doing observed four very prominent smokey black torpedo wakes.   Saw escort already turned towards us ninety of the necessary 180 degrees.

0944 Second depth charge.

0945 Fired 1 MK.27 on advice from sound.
