Memories of Roy Lee Hill Jr. (Sailor, rest your oars!)
"My dad, Roy Lee Hill Jr., was a 3rd class electricians mate and was in the Navy from 1942-1945. He served on the Bergall from her commissioning until the end of the war.
In the Commissioning Photo my father is in the third row...#8 from the left side...#10 from the right side.
He never talked much about the war. He did tell my brother that he thought he should have been given the Purple Heart.
Roy Hill passed on into Heaven on April 5 of '99 year. This web site has been "good medicine" for my Mom while mourning my father.
On his headstone we had a carving of a
submarine put on it. The man carved it into the stone itself and
it really looks nice. It is on the bottom of the stone and really
is very impressive.
