Subject: U.S.S. BERGALL - Report of SECOND War Patrol

(L) RADIO

All radio equipment functioned very satisfactorily during the patrol. Our one transmission was sent and receipted for promply and efficiently without any undue trouble from Japanese interference. With the exception of the mid-day period, when atmospheric conditions interfered, reception of fox schedules was good throughout the run.

The trip north to the barrier in company with the USS DACE afforded an opportunity for working with voice equipment with the following results noted:
For ship to ship voice communication the VHF was of little value at range much over 3,000 yards.
The kingsley receiver was excellent for receiving voice but did not compare with the standard RAL high frequency receivers in long distant CW reception.
