(b)   The ships might alter course towards beach shortening torpedo run further.
(c)    If MK. 23 torpedoes could be fired from the beach side our location would be known and there was not enough water (18 fathoms) to evade.
Maneuvered to fire from about 2,000 yards on a 90° Port track using four torpedoes (MK. 23) on the large ship, second in column, with 150% spread coverage.   Then planned to fire two torpedoes at the leading ship accepting the large track.

0903 30 Took set up on first ship.   Saw second escort bearing 030°Relative, less than 500 yards.   Periscope ducked.   Turned sharply to the right and ordered 175 feet depth.
0904 39 Heard loud explosion of a torpedo hit.
0904 40 Heard two minor explosions believed to be internal explosions in target.
0904 47 Another loud explosion.   Sound could no longer hear target's screws but could hear one torpedo still running to the left of the target's breaking up noises.   Both the JP operator (an officer) and the JK operator (a chief radioman) reported breaking up noises for three minutes when at -
0908 (H) The first batch of depth charges dropped too close for comfort while we were at 150 feet.   From this time until -
1416 (H) Received thirty depth charges and four aircraft bombs.
